EXPERIMENTAL AIRCRAFT ASSOCIATION March 9, 2005
Chapter 997 Four Corners Area
Our Next Meeting
Our next meeting will be in Del’s Hangar No. 3 at 5:30 PM on Wednesday, March 16. The usual rules apply regarding parking, chairs and alternate refreshments. President Jim is organizing a "beer and brats" feast, and afterwards we will go en masse to see Doug Brady’s current project. This should be a real treat. First, Doug’s workmanship is outstanding. Second, the project is truly state-of-the-art. Reportedly, it is a Lancair IV-P (pressurized), has a Walter 601E turbo-prop propulsion system, and is expected to cruise at 370 mph. Maybe we can arrange to have a raffle to decide who gets to take it home!
Our Last Meeting
We had two meetings on February 16.
- Several members attended the monthly meeting of the DRO Airport Commission at 3:00 PM to participate and observe. The issue of concern was a proposal to operate a skydiving school at DRO with the VOR as the center of the drop zone. The permit was denied based on the landing zone being on the airport grounds and thereby posing a safety hazard to aircraft operations. Don Schardt, AOPA GA Representative at DRO, gave a very professional presentation. Bob Winski was very active in alerting Chapter Membership of the proposal and its possible effect on our local airspace. Many thanks to both of these members and others who participated. We need to recognize that as space becomes more of a premium, we need to "toot our own horn" about the good things we do and the resulting benefits to our local communities.
- Our regular meeting was held in Del’s Hangar No. 3 at 5:30 PM. This could be called a "No Host," meeting except that Peggy (Mrs. President) brought GOODIES. Thanks, Peggy.
President Jim, Speaker of the Night, discussed the principles of aerobatic flight
(military style.)

Jim emphasized that formal training is very important and suggested Bruce Smith at Animas can help trainees with his Citabria.
Business Meeting –
- A motion was passed to award Lifetime Membership to Lee Bernhardt in recognition of his dedicated leadership during his many years as Chapter President.
- Several subjects were discussed preliminary to decisions to be made later: special plans to encourage membership and participation, work plan to upgrade the segmented circle at Animas, and a "fleet trip" to Oshkosh for 100 mph aircraft.
Special Note
Many thanks to Bob and Mary Beth Winski for substituting for the Secretary for the last two meetings.
While We Are Thinking About A Chapter Project ------

It is reported that this bird was wiped out since these pictures were taken. Isn’t that a shame!
