Chapter 997 Four Corners Area
Our Next Meeting
SPECIAL ALERT!!! Our next meeting will be on Saturday, 11/20 at 10:00 AM at Oliver’s Restaurant in Aztec. Oliver’s advertises "the best prime rib in the 4 Corners" and they are located at 1901 West Aztec Boulevard in Aztec. But, you are supposed to fly to the Aztec airport and then join the group for a short stroll to the restaurant. Oliver’s advertises a full menu including breakfast. After a meal and a short meeting we will walk back to the airport and visit Bob Holgate’s hangar. Bob has a Vari-eze and a Cozy Mark IV that we need to see.
Since the Last Meeting
Eleven members and guests were at the Aztec fly-in for breakfast on November 6. The attendees were Mike Arnold, Del Gregg, Larry Hawkins, Shirley and Jim Hinnen, Bob Holgate, Mike Talovich, Peggy and Jim Thornton, Bob Mann, and Harold Johnson. I’d call that a pretty good load for a Mooney Mite, wouldn’t you?

Note the hint of a dress code for the November 20th meeting.
Our Last Meeting
About 25 members and guests attended the meeting on October 23rd at Jess’ hangar. The weather was great and several members flew to Farmington. Once again Jess fed and entertained us royally. Jess showed us tools and hobby projects from the era "Before Pop Rivets and Duct Tape." His copper art work is very nice. I heard two special tidbits from his description of the early days: (a) He and Marilette will be celebrating their 65th anniversary one of these days, and (b) Jess was sent to school in Oakland before WWII by Boeing. This was the basis of his sheet metal career and his A&E license. And it is always a special pleasure to see his Luscombe. Some of Jess’ fine copper art work is shown below. The items up high are tree ornaments. The "picture" at the bottom is really a mirror! Jess made the frame for the mirror as a wedding present for his bride.

Some business was transacted.
Agenda Item for the Next Meeting
It is time for planning of our Annual Christmas Party presently scheduled for Wednesday, December 15th at 5:30. In addition to reviewing the date, we need to get organized on individual participation. Please choose one or more of your specialties from the following list of possible contributions, and (a) get your offer on the record at the meeting in Aztec or, (b) e-mail (jpthornton@fone.net) or call President Jim (970-259-5988). This should greatly help Jim with the last minute coordination.
